What is a web accessibility checker?
A web accessibility checker is an automated tool that scans websites for WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 violations: missing alt text, color contrast failures, keyboard navigation barriers, and invalid ARIA attributes. It returns a prioritized fix list covering ADA, Section 508, and European Accessibility Act requirements — in under 30 seconds, no signup required.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the web accessibility checker and WCAG compliance.
Is this WCAG compliance tool free?
Yes. The one-shot accessibility scan is free and requires no signup — results in about 30 seconds. Paid plans starting at €29 per month add continuous monitoring, team dashboards, downloadable compliance certificates, and REST API access.
Which accessibility standards does it test?
Accessibility Checker tests against WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 at Level A, AA, and AAA. The same checks cover ADA Title III (United States), Section 508 (US federal agencies), and the European Accessibility Act (EAA) — the three regulations that reference WCAG as their technical baseline.
See our WCAG 3.0 guide for 2026 for what’s changing in the next generation of accessibility standards.
Can the checker detect European Accessibility Act (EAA) violations?
Yes. The EAA has been mandatory since 28 June 2025 for B2C websites selling products or services in the EU, and it requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance. Accessibility Checker flags every criterion the EAA references and issues a compliance certificate you can attach to your accessibility statement.
How accurate are automated accessibility scans?
Automated tools reliably detect 30 to 40 percent of WCAG issues — the machine-detectable ones like missing alt attributes, contrast ratios, ARIA misuse, and heading order. The remaining 60 to 70 percent require human review for context (whether alt text is meaningful, whether a keyboard flow is logical). For legal-grade compliance we recommend pairing the free automated scan with a manual audit.
What WCAG checks does the scanner run?
The scanner runs 21 automated WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 checks per page, covering: missing or empty alt text (1.1.1), insufficient color contrast (1.4.3 and 1.4.11), missing form labels (1.3.1), keyboard focus visibility (2.4.7), missing language attribute (3.1.1), invalid ARIA roles and attributes (4.1.2), missing skip links (2.4.1), and more. Results are grouped by severity: critical, major, and minor.
How do I fix web accessibility issues found by the checker?
Each issue in the report includes a specific fix description. The most common fixes are: adding descriptive alt attributes to images, increasing text contrast ratios to 4.5:1 minimum, associating form inputs with label elements, ensuring all interactive elements are keyboard-focusable, and adding a visible skip-to-content link at the top of each page. The paid monitoring plan tracks whether fixes persist after deployments.
